Librarians on The Colbert Report
As comedian/pundit Stephen Colbert knows, the greatest enemies of America right now are the Communists. Where are the most pervasive Communists? In the library, of course! Books free for all? Internet free for all? The horror! Colbert tackles this tough issue and encourages Americans to fight Communism on last night's episode of The Colbert Report, braving the trenches of the Rutherford, NJ, Public Library to interview some of the most dedicated Communists of all: LIBRARIANS.

Are you worried people will take him seriously and check out books with no intention of returning them?

I can't speak for Carlie, but no, I am not worried. The howls of laughter from that clip do a pretty good job of defusing any hint of seriousness.

No, I'm not worried. I can't imagine that anyone watching the Colbert Report wouldn't know much of it is satire. His narrative is really over the top, plus as Sophie mentioned, you can hear the audience laughing.

Would libraries would really mind if people actually paid for the books they didn't return? The pay part is important since that's how Colbert plans to turn libraries from tools of communism to capitalism. We can call it "subsidized weeding."
