Friday Fun: Happy birthday, Melissa!
Today, our very own British TV maven and dear friend Melissa is celebrating a birthday, so I think we should all gift her with our current favorite pop culture links.
Mine is Musicovery. Some days I feel like listening to Metallica. Other times, I'm more in a Tori Amos mood, or sometimes I just want to shake it like a Polaroid picture. Musicovery will let me tell it on a matrix whether I want music that is more energetic, positive, dark, or calm, and at the same time I can tell it what genres of music I like so it knows not to give me Keith Urban when I really prefer Boys Like Girls.

Perhaps a little unusual for pop culture, but I have to spend at least a little time every day at Go Fug Yourself, a site that snarkily comments on poorly dressed celebrities.
Now what does that have to do with pop culture? Well, they often feature up-and-coming singers/actors/etc. since they cannot afford people who will dress them well, so I'm always seeing people who could be the Next Big Thing.
Also, they cover a lot of awards ceremonies and charity galas, so I'm kept abreast of those events and often get prompted through the GFY post to go look at awards results.
Finally, the posts themselves are so rife with pop culture references (new, old, imaginary) that just reading them keeps you on top of all things poppy.

Happy Birthday Melissa!
One of my favorite pop culture links relates to health and fitness: RealAge, which has Dr. Michael Roizen and Dr. Mehmet Oz, who frequently appear on the Oprah Show, on its Scientific Advisory Board.

Go Fug Yourself is so very awesome, John!
I know you love baking, birthday girl, so here are two of my favorite baking blogs (of course, there are a gazillion of these, so my sample is by no means fully representative): smitten kitchen. Of course, the post for today features a salsa, not a baked good, but Deb bakes everything, from crazy-fancy wedding cakes to humble banana breads. Love.
Then, of course, there is . If you are not familiar with Dorie and her amazing recipes, run, don't walk (how does one run online? Anyone? I got nothin') and start reading & salivating immediately.

I like finding silly, quick games to play on the Internet. With every new Keys of the Kingdom book, I go to the Scholastic site and play their related games: http://www.scholastic.com/titles/keys/game.htm
And I just found the Corey v Corey game up at A&E : http://www.aetv.com/the-two-coreys/corey-vs-corey-game/index.jsp which, as you advance, unlocks such awesome powers as stakes and gaspedals.
